Collage, Colour and Complicating Blackness

Derrick Adams’ multidisciplinary work mines the histories of art and popular culture in order to visually present a complex understanding of black life in the US. Lawrence Lemaoana is known for his embroidered kanga cloths, which humorously appropriate the language of South African politics and mass media. In conversation Aruna D'souza (Art Writer), they will discuss consciousness and community, as well as the centrality of text, fabric and craft in their work.
